Pentimento

Dear Friends and art lovers,

Sometimes the best course of action is to let go of the past in this case the past is last years painting.

In preperation for up-coming exhibitions I become immersed in my painting . For me it is a good place to be no matter how neurotic I can get .

Last year this time life derailed my focus from painting. Life can be that way, creating a path you did not see coming . The painting I was working on at that time 'Pathways' never felt complete to me . I was rushed, distracted and my priorities were shifted.

The profound influence life events have on us are always under the surface they inform our present I feel this when I create. Last years painting is the under painting for a fresh perspective being grateful for it all.

Now to work,

fond regards Nadina

Heart Soul Mind May 23 - June 6, 2014

I am still sifting through photographs from the Friday night and Saturday reception at the Bugera Matheson Gallery in Edmonton, Alberta.  I had so many wonderful conversations with people that were genuinely interested in art and the process of its creation. The connections made on this level were deeply gratifying and it makes all the time alone in the studio worth while.

Thank you Angela Bugera Matheson for the opportunity to share my work in your Gallery

If you have friends and family in Edmonton the exhibition is up until June 6th . Heart Soul Mind is a well curated show Jean Pederson and Alex Peck-Whyte my two new friends - we rocked it.

HEART SOUL MIND

Dear friends and art lovers,

The Latest Work series, now at the Bugera Matheson Gallery, began when I happened across a collection of antique maps of the Mississippi river. The pattern formed by the great river's path over the land as well as the ghost of previous pathways through the topography drew me in. Water and it's symbolism has been a reoccurring theme in my work.

“what is soft is strong” Lao Tzu.

I live a short walk from the ocean and enjoy exploring it's shoreline. The seasonal ebb and flow of fresh water to the ocean constantly reshapes and pattens the foreshore as the water moves around, through and over the rocky sand. In the stream's urgency to meet the ocean it's path is fluid and yielding. I noted the fresh water's effects and documented these ever changing patterns wanting to incorporate my observations into my art.

In the course of creating this series I shared some of the work in progress with friends. One friend, a hydrologist, immediately recognized the movement and distribution patterns native to water and went on to recount a series of mathematical equations explaining the development of those patterns. The formulae were lost on me, none the less I had managed to replicate the system in my painting. Not so much math as magic.

In complicated, seemingly incongruous and round about ways I seek connections. I am as curious as a scientist documenting and gathering information, which I then take from the field to my lab/studio. It is the raw resource material informing a symbolic

language in an intuitive way.

In all things, I look for connection and pattern.

Fond regards,
Nadina
