A colourful combination of art and music... be here as Gibsons artist Nadina Tandy creates a work of art through the evening accompanied by some equally artistic music featuring Graham Ord on sax, Paul Steenhuis on bass and Barry Taylor on drums.
 

In the New Year I  had the privilege of my artwork Growing Protection used for the cover art for the novel Walking on Heads: My Charming Imposter A Cautionary Tale, by author Dania Matiation.

I have a few other projects that I am working on for this summer.

Dear Friends,

 I have filled up on social media, a gavage so to speak. The farmer that gorges the goose to fatten the liver for foie gras says that the animal has no gag reflex and force-feeding them doesn’t hurt them.

 What is the draw to sites like facebook, pinterest, twitter et cetera? I have had positive experiences on these sites. The negative is also been positive so for me it is in measures and measures are hard when the access is always available on my iphone. I have drowned and diluted myself with other people’s art. The danger of social media gluttony is allowing others accomplishments and praise to diminish ones own. It is like a commercial designed to make you feel less than so you buy more.

 This is where I can go down hill. When I need outside approval for my work. It is a sickness that blocks my creativity. I can choose if I am going to levitate or stagnate when I use these media tools to share. Ultimately I am driven to create. My belief that art needs to be seen, heard and shared is what keeps me clear headed and grounded.

I would like to share THE PROCESS 2012  it is my premier attempt at making a video .

I have chirped out a few tweets . I made the effort to put the twitter logo on my website but after some frustration I ask for help. Thank you Mike for your time and help.

Power of Paint is leaking out to the media and people are wanting to know what is brewing for August 2012. There will be teaser trailers coming out from the other artist ....the suspense is building~stay tuned.

I had a visitor to my studio over the weekend. I went about my art practice and he shot video around me. The result is a sweet little peek at my space and environment. Thank you Todd Clark for your eye.

Running from the 17th of October through the 23, the Sechelt Festival of the Arts presented music, performance and visual art at various venues around Sechelt. As part of the events, a juried art show curated by Greg Bellerby was to be held at the Seaside Center and I was fortunate to be one of 33 artists to be shortlisted for the exhibition. A gala opening was held on the evening of the 18th with the artists attending. There was much mingling, art talk and wonder at the amazing variety of talent on display.  

That weekend saw me staying closer to home as I opened my studio to visitors for the first time as the 2nd annual Sunshine Coast Art Crawl kicked off on Friday the 21st running through Sunday the 23. With 108 participating studios and galleries from Langdale to Lund throwing open their doors it was a weekend made for art lovers. I had over 70 visitors over two days to my small studio and what at first was a bit of an apprehension for me, turned out to be a delight. The people I met were excited, interested, informed and inquisitive. This fantastic, well organized, event was a perfect vehicle to highlight the wonderfully creative and versatile artistic community that exists here on the coast.

Music in the Landing is a live music festival where local musicians take to the streets and parks and in my case the gazebo on the local harbour to perform and entertain for wonderfully appreciative audiences. I was fortunate enough to be asked to join a musical trio extraordinaire as a forth.  Accompanied  by Graham Ord  , Paul Steenhuis and Barry Taylor as 'New and Improv' we improvised both music and paint taking turns letting one lead the other. It was terrifying , being so foreign to the way I normally work, but exhilarating at the same time. The bottom line is that exhilaration won out and there was some thought to doing it again this winter.

Also on the agenda this summer was the fantastic music, performance and exhibition arts festival called Synchronicity. This wonderful event facilitated by deer crossing The ART FARM allowed me a chance to exhibit my nature art  installations. While this is something I have always done it has not been something that I have often had the chance to show. Shirley Macey Park provided the perfect backdrop for this creative, stimulating and energetic event.  

Nadina is thrilled to be presenting new work in her third consecutive Goldmoss Gallery group show. The exhibition entitled Infinity includes new paintings by 8 artists and runs through the summer season. We're into the second month of a new year and Nadina is excited about exhibiting her new work in her second Goldmoss Gallery show. Entitled the Autonomy of Love, the show is an exhibition of 5 participating artists working in various mediums around the general theme of the show's title. Expect to be surprised, delighted and entertained by the wonderful artworks on display in this beautifully appointed gallery. Its been a busy month and a half as Nadina has been dividing her time among a number of different art projects. One of these projects is the Glow Contemporary Exhibition opening on December 4th at Goldmoss Gallery . The show will feature 5 different artists exhibiting 48 new and previously undisplayed paintings in this local gallery with the opening reception running from 4 to 7pm. Another exhibition Nadina is excited about is the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria's                        Christmas Small Works Exhibition taking place in the historic Massey Gallery. She will be in good company as over 60 artists will be displaying new small works just in time for the Christmas season.

The final project that Nadina has been involved in this month has been a playful one. In conjunction with Brazil's Museu Brasileiro da Escultura Nadina is participating in the Troyart International Exhibition. The show involves a host of international artists decorating and customizing a small cardboard robot, photographing and then returning it to the Museu Brasileiro da Escultura in Sao Paulo where they will be displayed. All in all a whimsical and fun project.

Nadina will be exhibiting her artwork in the Sunshine Coast Art Crawl through the October 23- 24 weekend. The Crawl is a two day event taking place from Langdale to Lund with open galleries, artists studios and more. Nadina will be showing at beautiful Bonniebrook Lodge located at 1532 Ocean Beach Esplanade in Gibsons. The show will include a selection of work from a variety of series and for those interested in gaining some insight into one artist's creative process, Chasters fine dining at Bonniebrook Lodge is offering a dinner and art event with Nadina on Friday October 22.
